Mersey welcome Gareth as overseas

Mersey welcome as their overseas for the 2010 season South African Gareth Basson.

Gareth is a 25 year old 6ft 4 opening bowler and a hard hitting middle order batsmen who came through the Lancashire Cricket Club’s youth programme in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. He is presently the opening bowler for the first team that is playing in the Kwazulu Natal Inland (KZN) Premier League.

Gareth has also played for the South African Shell Academy Kwa Zulu Natal Inland Academy and Kwa Zulu Natal Midland side. He represented Natal schools at U17 and U19 age groups.

Gareth has spent the last two summer seasons in the UK playing for Kettering Town CC in the Northamptonshire Cricket league. Kettering have provided glowing reports for Gareth and are sorry to lose him, the figure for this period can be found here

Gareth will be travelling over to Mersey with wife Jess and he will be involved not only in playing for the 1st XI but helping us with the coaching of our junior sides.

We are happy to welcome them both to Mersey and hope that they will enjoy their stay with us for coming season.
